Dedicated to friends.
To Alberto.
I’m back with more of All Is Found.
I love this song to bits.
And this singer is really not bad. A very clear, very calming, very gentle voice.
This version starts and ends off quite similar to the Dutch version. I wonder how much communication the Dutch and Flemish localisation teams had with one another? Nevertheless, the versions later diverge, and, I think this version preserves the English version’s meaning much better in the second stanza, which is interesting.
The third stanza might not rhyme so well, but for some reason I don’t mind. Maybe it’s because of the new take the lyrics have on the story. Also there is no parallel between the second lines of the first and last stanzas (There’s a river full of memory / There’s a mother full of memory etc.), which actually turns out to be quite common: the French and Icelandic versions don’t exactly parallel these either, having totally different words at the end of the second lines (although the second line of the last stanza always mentions a ‘mother’ – it’s relevant).
In terms of rhyme scheme, this is AABB BBCC DEDE AAFF, although the DEDE part is, as mentioned, not super strict.
As you may have guessed, I do not speak Flemish, and thus the lyrics and translation are taken and edited from a viewer’s comment under the very video linked to here. Let me know if I have mistranslated anything~
Al Wat Je Zoekt [All That Thou Seekest]
Written by: Robert Lopez, Kristen Anderson-Lopez
Composed by: Christophe Beck
Performed by: Jasmine Jaspers
In the North, far from here / Streameth a cold, magical river
Sleep, my most loved, sleep fast / All that thou seekest waiteth there for thee
In her water, deep and blue / Lieth the answer and a path for thee
Follow the voice who to thee singeth / But not too far or thou drownest
Her song echoeth full of magic / And whoever heareth her, followeth the stream
But canst thou take it once thou choosest that? / The river, thou shalt not bypass
In the North, far from here / Singeth a mother sadly her melody
Come, my most loved, come homeward / All that thou seekest, that shall bring thee home
